Mechanical Engineer (Level 4)

Mid-career position

We are looking for a Level 4 Mechanical Engineer (10~15 years experience) to join our growing team!

Our projects include designing, building, and deploying clean-sheet automation and manufacturing solutions for cutting-edge technologies of the future such as electric aircraft, commercial spacecraft, batteries, and clean energy. The projects we take on are challenging but also rewarding and often involve solving problems in ways that have never been done before.

Mechanical engineers at Perellion perform a wide range of tasks across the entire life cycle of a project, including design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing. In this role, you would be directly responsible for each step of this process from cradle to grave, while working as part of a team that includes electrical, controls, and mechanical engineers. Your responsibilities would include extensive hands-on work in addition to more traditional desk-based engineering work. In particular, we are currently looking for individuals who are interested in pursuing a project management and/or technical project lead career path rather than staying in an individual contributor role indefinitely, but well-qualified applicants will be considered regardless of their career goals.

All engineering positions at Perellion are full-time in-person/in-the-office.

Starting Pay Range

$109,000 to $159,000/year

Requirements

  • BSME or MSME
  • 10+ years experience working professionally as a mechanical engineer. Applicants responding to this job post who do not meet this qualification will not be considered.
  • Enjoyable person to be around. Our team is made up of great people with positive attitudes, we like to work with each other, and maintaining this culture is a very high priority.
  • Strong communication skills. This is as important as engineering capabilities.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently in an environment that emphasizes individual ownership and responsibility, and where requirements may not always be well-defined
  • Able to perform strenuous tasks such as lifting and moving up to 40 lbs repeatedly each day
  • Eagerness to get your hands dirty using tools and operating heavy equipment
  • Eagerness to participate in our mentorship program and provide guidance and support to less experienced engineers to help them level up

Bonus points

  • Hands-on mechanical experience such as auto repair, construction, bicycle repair, welding, and machining
  • Experience designing and building automated systems: robotics, PLC programming, microcontrollers, etc.
  • Experience managing custom equipment/tooling design-build projects and/or leading engineering teams
  • Experience working on proposals, sales, and quoting/estimating

Applicants will be tested and expected to demonstrate competence in these areas:

  • Particle and rigid body kinematics, statics, dynamics
  • Stress analysis (hand calculations)
  • Manufacturing methods and materials (DFM)
  • Tolerancing, including basic GD&T
